Hello and welcome to Acorns Class. Acorns class is made up of 30 wonderful reception children, taught by Miss Thomas - the Acorns class teacher, and supported by Mrs Whitehead, Mrs White and Miss Parsons.

Welcome back into the Spring Term. This term our Topic is all about 'SUPERHEROES' and we are thoroughly enjoying our hook books - Supertato, Supermum, Superworm and Ten Supermen. We are not just looking at superheroes that you'd expect either. This term we are looking at superheros that are all around us, including those that we live with, those that help us within the community and those that we least expect - after all, superheroes come in all different shapes and sizes.

We are also continuing our daily RWI lessons. This term we will be revisiting those set 1 sounds, and looking at set 2 sounds too! We will be learning rhymes and ways of remembering these, as well as working on our reading work with Miss Thomas and writing work with Mrs Whitehead.

In Maths we are continuing to look at a number of the week - this term going above and beyond 10. We will also use objectives from Development Matters to plan lessons accordingly and allowing your child to access Maths through fun and exploratory ways, as well as recording and learning through a Mastery Maths approach.

We have a wonderful classroom including an exciting indoor space and a large outdoor area which we can freely access throughout the day. We are excited to see your children develop this year through a broad and balanced curriculum that enables all children to develop to their full potential. Each child is valued as an individual and teaching and learning is based on the understanding that children develop at different rates.

If you have any questions and would like to discuss these with me, I am always available on the door in the mornings or after school. Please come in and join our classroom routines on a Wednesday and Friday too!

Kind Wishes

Miss Thomas and the Acorns Team

Enjoying our Maths lessons.
We have been learning to blend CVC words in Read Write Inc and we are beginning to write words too.
We have had a great 2 weeks at school!
Tapestry
At Chacewater School we use an online programme called Tapestry to collect information about your child's learning throughout the year. You may add to this journal yourself and we will upload photographs, and sometimes video, of your child in school. This Learning Journal helps us to create a broad understanding of your child's needs and progress.
During the first few weeks of school we will set up your child's account and you can then access it through any devise using a unique PIN code. Only you will be able to see the information about your child and only the class teacher will be able to see the observations that you upload.
We will regularly look at the Tapestry Journal with your child and hope that you will be able to contribute to it so we can have the fullest possible picture of your child's first year in school.
At the end of the year we will provide you with a pdf of this Journal for you to keep.
