Hello and welcome to the Acorns class

Firstly, I would like to welcome you all again to Chacewater School. We are delighted to welcome you and your child to our Reception class and we can’t wait to get stuck in to the amazing learning we have planned for the upcoming year. This year the Acorns class will be taught by Mrs Glanville-Thomas and supported by Mrs White and Mrs Booker in the morning. We have worked in the Acorns class together for 3 years now and we love teaching the youngest of children in school to be enthused, excited and creative with their learning.

We are in our first term at Chacewater, the Autumn Term and we love this term for many reasons. This term allows us to really get to know your children, to transition them into school life, teaching them the rules, the routines and the learning that takes place this term. Our Autumn term consists of learning about ourselves with our topic ‘All About Me’ launching after the initial staggered starts. The second part of the Autumn Term we will be learning about celebrations and festivals that take place around this time of year. We will be looking at Halloween, Diwali, Bonfire Night and our all time favourite - Christmas. We will also be practicing for the Nativity which will be performed at the end of the year.

Alongside this, we will also be getting busy with our learning through the Literacy and Maths provision we set up during the morning provision. In RWI we will be learning the initial set 1 sounds and working on lots of hearing and listening games to support them with this. In Maths we will be focusing on a number of the week, starting with number 1 and each week looking at a new objective from the new revised framework.

We can’t wait to get started, welcoming your children into our class and to begin with the amazing journey ahead. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you should need to.

Reading -
In the next couple of weeks your child will be sent home with a school wordless book to be read daily. These books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We ask if you can write in your child's reading diary if you have listened to them read. We will also write in your child's diary on the days we have changed their books.
Your child will also received a Library book which the children have chosen themselves. Please read this book with them at bedtime and then return in their school bags. We will visit the Library every Friday on rotation.
Once RWI has fully started, your child will also received some RWI packs . Over the course of the next few weeks, your child will be taught a range of Read Write Inc sounds. You will receive a pack weekly stating the sounds learnt in class over the course of the week. We ask if you can practice writing these sounds with your child, as well as using the images as flash cards to refresh their minds on the sounds taught.
If you would like to do some additional work on the sounds online, you can also look on these websites:
